Perched on a 600-foot volcanic sea cliff on the easternmost tip of O'ahu, the Makapu'u Lighthouse has safely guided mariners approaching Honolulu from the U.S. mainland since 1909. The landmark is famous for housing a massive French hyper-radial Fresnel lens—the largest lens of its kind in the United States. Today there is a lovely paved hiking road to the top with fantastic views of this side of the island.
